Thank you for your reply - the first useful thing I've gotten from Microsoft support(?) in some time. I followed the installation instructions exactly, albeit some time ago. I've already wasted enough time on this, so, for the moment I'll pass on re-installing. I may try the re-install after my presentation is presented.

Based on the history here I'm not sure I'd bet on it solving the problem, though I'm glad you think so. Again, I appreciate your response. I'm reminded, from my Windows days, of Bill Gates saying something like re-booting is good. Well, things deteriorated further - slide transitions don't work at all, a mess. So, I reloaded Office. Now the transitions work, but the timing is inconsistent - sometimes slow, sometimes fast, and this is on a vanilla black and white presentation with a few builds within some slides. So, now what?

How can I make the timing of slide transitions and builds more consistent? I have the latest Mac OS and the best MacBook Pro available in 2015 (solid state disk, etc.)? The main problem is that now I click and sometimes nothing happens for more than a few seconds, then I click again, and, of course, it now acts on the two clicks. Should I just try another presentation application for my upcoming talk?
